Invest in the future of
Judith Basin County

Dear Community Members,

As chairman of the Judith Basin Chamber of Commerce, I wish to congratulate the communities of Hobson and Stanford on their centennial anniversaries. We can readily see this is an accomplishment when we compare the number of eastern Montana communities on the 1958 Montana road map versus the 2008 Montana road map. Reunions are a great time to renew old acquaintances and learn of the successes of former JB citizens and children who moved elsewhere for their careers. This is also an opportunity to encourage these former residents to consider investing in the future of the Judith Basin to insure our communities will be here 100 years from now.

The Judith Basin and eastern Montana have resources that many counties would be jealous of. We have the soils and climate that provide us the opportunity to produce more food than we can consume. We have coal, petroleum and natural gas fossil fuels, plus wind, following rivers, frequently clear skies for renewable energy sources, forest for wood products, and some metal deposits. Judith Basin County has a highly traveled highway and a railroad passing through it. The Judith Basin has a great climate to live in and many recreational opportunities. Why do we not have growing industries and a growing population to support those growing industries?

Those who grew up in the Judith Basin and moved away to careers elsewhere may have resources that could be fruitfully invested in the Judith Basin. Some may have careers that could be transplanted here. Others may have ideas for viable industries, venture capital to invest, or viable business plans looking for a home and financing. Modern communication technologies have eliminated the need for a wide array of businesses to be close to a major urban center to conduct business. Some may find it beneficial to move part of their company to the Judith Basin.

What may be the factor(s) that inhibit bringing their business to the Judith Basin? Lack of a skilled and dedicated labor force, office space, suitable available land on which to build, quality housing for their employees and the array of educational opportunities for their children. The limitations that are inhibiting our children from building their careers here can be overcome if we set that as a goal of our county citizens. Some of our former citizens have businesses, capital, dreams, ideas, methods, skills and other resources that they could invest in the future of the Judith Basin. Just as important many have a sense of loyalty to their family roots. Invite our reunion visitors to consider investing in the future of the Judith Basin.
