I grew up in Windham and came across this site while browsing facebook. The people I grew up with and this area have a big place in my heart.

I was so lucky to live in Judith Basin in the mid 1990's, when many of the old timers were still alive to talk about the old days. That beautiful country, was to me like Thomas Merton's Nelson County Kentucky, a santuary where one could sail the sea of grass and the inner seas of ones soul. I took great care in choosing the historical narratives for this Auto Tour Guide, from the many Montana writers, while my now ex-husband, Larry Timchak, chose the Charlie Russell images. I am so grateful to Travel Montana, to the Judith Basin Historical Society, and the US Forest Service and other sponsors for printing the first editions and backing the legislation that commemorated the hiway: the Charlie Russell Trail. It's time to go back and experience the timeless peace of this place.
