Stanford Recycling

Did You Know . . .

~ Montanans recycle 15% of the waste generated here and the business of recycling brings jobs and money into the state. The EPA has set a national goal of a 35% recycling rate and Montana’s Integrated Waste Management Plan was revised in 2006 to set a new target of diverting 22% of waste through recycling and composting.

~ The United States generates approximately 208 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) a year. That's 4.3 pounds per person per day.

~ The steel industry recycled nearly 19 billion steel cans into new products; about 600 cans recycled every second.

~ It takes 95% less energy to make an aluminum can from recycled aluminum cans rather than virgin resources. That’s enough energy to run your TV for three hours.

~ Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours.

~ Motor oil never wears out, it just gets dirty. Oil can be recycled, re-refined and used again, reducing our reliance on imported oil.
Stanford Recycling is a collaborative effort by the local USDA Forest Service and Horizons Community.  This program was established for the betterment of our area. It was created in 2010 by leaders responding to the need for an integrated recycling program here in Stanford with the desire to reduce and impact the environmental footprint.

We have placed 6 bins (2 for steel cans, 2 for Aluminum cans and 2 for Newspapers) on the West side of K's Supermarket.
** Instructions:  Ted Kaste is also accepting cardboard at the store.  Just let him know first during store hours with regards to using the cardboard crusher.  ** Please make sure to separate and place the Steel cans, Aluminum cans, and Newspapers in the appropriate bins as marked.  Please empty all liquid from the Aluminum and Steel cans.  No foil.  Crush Aluminum cans.  Remove all labels from the Steel cans and flatten them before placing these items in the recycling bins.  The following materials are NOT recyclable: glass, styrofoam, paper napkins/towels, paper cups/plates, plastic utensils or straws, very dark or florescent-colored paper, juice boxes.
With the exception of seed money received through grants, donations and hard work, Stanford Recycling is going to offset any expenses involved and donate the balance to the Stanford Street Fund.

Thank you, we appreciate your support!
