Historic Judith Guard Station
The Judith Guard Station provides you an opportunity to stay at an historic ranger station constructed by a ranger in the early 1900's. This two-story frame building is a national historic site and has been furnished and decorated with historically accurate furnishings and wallpaper. It is adjacent a small existing campground. There is a modern vault toilet adjacent the station. The surrounding country is rolling ponderosa pine hills and the station is adjacent the Middle Fork of the Judith River.
Historic Judith Guard Station can accommodate eight adults and has the following available for users: two propane heat stoves and a propane cook stove, propane lanterns, two tables, seating for twelve, three twin trundle beds with six mattresses, and a queen-size futon, cooking equipment, dishes, pails, and basins. An outdoor pump is tested for potable water, generally from early May through September. During other months, renters should bring their own drinking water or use backpacker pumps to filter river water. Renters must bring sleeping bags, mantels and propane cylinders for lanterns (or battery powered portable lights), towels, dish soap, disinfectant, garbage bags food, and personal gear. ‘Pack In/Pack Out’ is the policy in use. This means cabin users are responsible for removing all their trash and leaving the cabin in a clean condition.
There are opportunities for hiking, hunting, and a variety of outdoor pursuits. The access is via graveled road and is usually plowed to within 2 miles of the station during the winter. The facility is not accessible to the disabled. Nearest supplies can be obtained in Stanford. There is no sewer or electrical service available at this cabin. Pets and livestock are not permitted.
The Judith Ranger District is requesting that all renters come to the office, located in Stanford, to sign the contract and pick up the key. Both the condition report and key can be returned by mail within three days after occupancy. The Judith Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Please use extra care to preserve the historic nature of the site and building materials.
Historic Judith Guard Station is available year long on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost is $60 per night with a maximum stay of seven consecutive nights. Checkout time is noon. Renters must be at least 18 years of age.
